This is a streamlining process which allows benefit claimants to start a job and, if it doesn't work out, to reclaim those same benefits with as little delay as possible. It is part of the general 'back to work' ethos of the modern welfare state.
Rapid Reclaim applies to Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. It allows customers to reapply for benefit using a short claim form and speedier process, providng that the customer ws receiving benefit within the last twenty-six weeks and there has been no change in circumstances during the period between claims. Rapid Reclaim also applies to Employment and Support Allowance but there is one difference which is that the customer must have been receiving benefit within the last twelevr weeks (not twenty-six weeks).
The HB/CTB claim form is called the HBRR1. These forms are treated as a matter of urgency.
